Romulus Marcus Winter turned one month old on 5.27.19

[The photos above, after the 1, 2, 3 weeks, and 1 month photo, are in order by date taken]

This month has flown by on one hand and seemed to creep by during midnight feedings on the other. This little boy has added so much joy to our lives in such a short amount of time it's unbelievable.

During our 3 night stay at the hospital we got to spend precious moments with our baby for the first time. Between the nurses, doctors, consultants, and meal deliveries it felt like someone was in our room every hour.

Taking him home for the first time was equal parts scary and exciting. We were so looking forward to sleeping in our beds with Romulus beside us in his moses basket... but we knew we wouldn't have the around the clock care we were accustomed to.

He was five days old when he took his first outing to the doctor's office. He was very fussy because we screwed up the timing on his feedings and he became hangry while the doctor was performing his examination. We came prepared with food in his diaper bag and soon he calmed down but it felt a little overwhelming to have a screaming baby in public. Another mom with a newborn in a stroller walked past me and grunted "it gets better". I laughed and cried because I felt she understood me and my hormones were still going crazy. The hospital input his date of birth incorrectly and I, in a tizzy, proclaimed to the receptionist "I'm quite sure this date is wrong because I was there... I can bring the birth certificate or show you time stamped photos if you need them!" It took about a week but they worked it out.

We had lots of video chats with Romulus' grandfather in North Carolina. We discovered that Rommy enjoys the selfie view on my phone during these chats and it was great to feel like my dad was a part of it all even though he was thousands of miles away.

Romulus' due date was May 1st, the day before my 30th birthday. I had hoped he would be born on my birthday but when the time came I was very appreciative that he was delivered before then. We were able to enjoy my birthday in the comfort of our apartment. I can honestly say he was the best birthday gift I've ever had!

Rom's great grandmother flew out from NC for almost a week which was great. She got to be a part of his first bath and his first real, non doctor's office, outing. We mostly hung out around the apartment and she didn't want to let go of the baby.

We dealt with a growth spurt around 3.5 weeks old and that was very mentally/physically draining for us parents. He drank 300ml more than normal during the days of his growth spurt and his sleep was very erratic.

He has since calmed back down. Over the last month he has gained 3.75 pounds. Now weighing in at 12.8 pounds. He has grown at least an inch since birth. We will find out at his 6 week check up how many additional inches he has grown. He is super strong. He is able to hold his head up for long periods and he has rolled over from back to front and front to back a few times.

At 2.5 weeks old Rommy outgrew his newborn clothes. We decided to pack them up in case we are ever able to have another baby.

Robert has enjoyed reading the books to Romulus our friends and family have gifted him. He also puts the baby to sleep going into deep detail about the history of the Roman empire. We have so much fun just being in this boys presence, observing his cute faces and listening to his squeaks and grunts.

He has truly stolen our hearts and we are so thankful that we get to spend so much time bonding with him together!
